Top Health Plans Find No Cure for Racial Disparities
An article highlighting a study conducted by researchers from Harvard Medical School in Boston and Brown Medical School in Rhode Island was featured in the October issue of Star Ledger. The article by Angela Stewart indicated that the health outcomes for blacks are still less than whites even when blacks have higher-performing plans. Time to Face Unpleasant Necessities
An article highlighting
the Barber Shop Initiative was featured in the July 7 th edition
of the Star Ledger. The article by Barry Carter described the initiative,
which is a collaboration between the Institute for the Elimination
of Health Disparities, UMDNJ-University Hospital and Prostate Net.
Using Barbershops as a conduit for information, the program providing
free screening and education about prostate cancer for African Americans
men in Newark.

Group keeps Minorities Informed on Health Care
The ongoing work of the Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities was highlighted in The Courier News. The article mentioned current projects that the institute is involved in, including Project EXPORT which focuses on reducing cancer rates and deaths in minority communities. The article also mentioned that the Institute plans to expand its outreach efforts to diverse Central Jersey municipalities such as Plainfield and Bound brook in the near future.
